| The word lamp is derived from the Greek word lampas, meaning torch. The first flashlight was used in the early 1890's in New York City. The light created by a glow stick is the result of a chemical reaction called Chemiluminescence. There are two main types of light creation: incandescent lights, which use a filament, and Arc lights, which use an electrical current running through a gas. Sir Humphrey Davy of England invented the first electric carbon arc lamp in 1801. |
